Since July 1, 2021, workforce system staff has served 30 unique businesses, held eight hiring events or job fairs, and provided three businesses with Existing Worker Contracts to help retain the companies and train key workers.

The Central Virginia Workforce Development Board met on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at the Lynchburg Regional Business Alliance to address workforce shortages and develop solutions for employers in the Lynchburg region that are experiencing this phenomenon which arose due to the global pandemic, upsets in the global supply chain, and other factors.

The workforce board is establishing a Business Services Team made up of Virginia Career Works partners that will serve individual businesses in a confidential setting and recommend short and long-term solutions that address specific needs. The Board is also establishing specific committees to focus on improving workforce operations and inter-agency coordination. The five committees include Executive; Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; Finance, Operations and Performance; and Youth.

Additionally, the Virginia Career Works Lynchburg Center on Odd Fellows Road has served nearly 4,000 adults and 90 youth throughout the region in the past year, and enrolled nearly 150 of them in specialized Title 1 programs to help them get ahead.
