Foundations for the Future helps qualifying participants enroll in approved training programs.
Virginia Career Works – Central Region launched an aggressive marketing push during the month of July to advertise Foundations for the Future. The initiative is a partnership between the Central Virginia Workforce Development Board, Adult and Career Education (ACE) of Central Virginia, Central Virginia Community College (CVCC), and local departments of social services.
Funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), Foundations for the Future funds career training and supportive services for unemployed individuals who are receiving government assistance such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).
Qualifying participants will have a chance to enroll in classes at CVCC and other approved training providers such as Centra College of Nursing, to train for careers in healthcare and manufacturing. In addition to earning a credential or career certificate through their academic training, participants will also receive counseling in areas such as digital and financial literacy through SkillsUSA Career Essentials courses taught by ACE and Virginia Career Works staff.
The July launch of Foundations for the Future included a mix of paid broadcast advertising, social media outreach, and targeted media placement, which resulted in 80 applications being submitted by interested participants within the first 14 days of the program’s introduction.
