Beginning March 2019, the Region 2000 Local Government Council will re-establish itself as the Central Virginia Planning District Commission (CVPDC). Chartered by the General Assembly of Virginia under the Regional
Cooperation Act, the CVPDC was originally formed in 1969 to encourage and assist local elected and appointed officials in addressing issues that extend beyond their individual localities while working to strengthen collaboration and effective communication among their neighboring jurisdictions.
Going “back to its roots,” the Central Virginia Planning District Commission name more clearly communicates its focus on planning, community development and services that support the residents, businesses, and communities of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Campbell and Lynchburg.
With its work focused on planning initiatives and delivering low-cost, high-quality public services, the CVPDC will continue to leverage the strengths and resources of its diverse stakeholders.
The CVPDC’s mission is simple and direct:
- to be a dynamic public forum for matters of regional significance;
- to create solutions by coordinating plans and building coalitions; and,
- to provide service excellence to our localities and to the Commonwealth.
“Working together has always been critical in strengthening our region,” says CVPDC Executive Director Gary Christie. “Solidifying trust among elected officials and sharing our expertise among professional staff are important components in creating connections, establishing relationships, and inspiring action.” Christie further states, “Our energetic, passionate, and knowledgeable staff will continue to serve our local government clients and communities with innovative and dynamic results.”
Now, in its 50th year of serving our communities, the CVPDC will launch its new organizational branding including an updated website (cvpdc.org) and renewed commitment to relevant and meaningful communication through regular newsletter publications.
