The CVPDC is supporting Altavista and Amherst County in executing Community Planning Grants for Mosley Heights and South Madison Heights, respectively. Both localities hosted Community Cookout/Back to School events to seek residents’ assessments of community needs (e.g. housing, infrastructure) and their ideas to improve living conditions for all residents.
The value of these projects was evidenced by residents showing up despite the extreme heat in Altavista and pouring rain in Madison Heights to participate. These collaborative community events are made possible by administrative staff, area churches, community leaders, catering vendors, and the United Way to provide families with food and school supplies.
